Make-Up and Photography...

My husband once wanted to pursue photography as a hobby but never had the chance to do so since we do not have a good camera to begin with. Ours is just a point and shoot digicam he bought during his trip to the US in 2005. I wish I could buy him any of these...

I, on the other hand have always wanted to become a make-up artist. I just love make-up even if I don't get to wear it to work everyday. I love make-up palettes, colors, lip gloss, etc. When I was still an usherette at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, I would buy make-up everytime I have extra money, and would put these on some of my close co-usherettes.

I once thought we would become a good team someday, if my husband decides to pursue photography and I, makeup.

Honestly, I want to try both, for myself. I find photography as a way to appreciate the beauty of life. I want to capture vivid memories. I want to keep a journal of photos I've taken. Make-up enhances one's good features. Make-up makes beauty become more beautiful. And isn't it nice to pursue these hobbies as a husband-and-wife team?

I hope we could squeeze these 2 interests in our books this year.

What's on my Playlist

Here are the lyrics of the songs that I have been playing over and over.. Really great songs...

And I Love You So
Don McLean

And I love you so.
The people ask me how,
How I've lived till now.
I tell them I don't know.

I guess they understand
How lonely life has been.
But life began again
The day you took my hand.

And, yes, I know how lonely life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night won't set me free.
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me.

And you love me, too.
Your thoughts are just for me;
You set my spirit free.
I'm happy that you do.

The book of life is brief
And once a page is read,
All but love is dead.
That is my belief.

And, yes, I know how loveless life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night won?t set me free.
But I don't let the evening bring me down
Now that you're around me.

And I love you so.
The people ask me how,
How I've lived till now.
I tell them, "i don't know."

I Loved You All the Way
Janie Frickie

All this we've been together
Everyday a new adventure
Times, enough to last forever and a day
Our love was sometimes all we had
Through good times and through bad
I loved you all the way

All our days weren't bright and sunny
There are times we have no money
You could always find some funny thing to say
And looking back on where we've been
I'd do it all again
I loved you all the way

I loved you all the way
Every night, every night, every day

Times I thought I couldn't take it
Wond'rin' if we'd ever make it
You could hold me close and make it go away
And though I've said it all before
I never meant it more
I loved you all the way
I loved you all the way

I Want to Give It All
Air Supply

Here I am again
I've come to see you smile
I know you understand
I have to say again
It's only for a while

And still you're always here
Just waiting for my call
I wish I knew a way
To give more than I do
I want to give it all

It doesn't happen every day
But it happened to me once before
Those early years I threw away
Now I only have to hear your voice
To make me feel so sure
That your love is why
I want to give it all

Don't the minutes fly
And hours just seem so few
With days apart so long
It's hard to spend my time
When I'm so far from you

And still you're always here
Just waiting for my call
I wish I knew a way
To give more than I do
I want to give it all

It doesn't happen every day
But it happened to me once before
Those early years I threw away
Now I only have to hear your voice
To make me feel so sure
That your love is why
I want to give it all

One Year Na!

Exactly a week from now, my husband and I will be celebrating our very first wedding anniversary! We weren't able to go to HK last year for our honeymoon due to financial constraints. So now, we are finally saying "Hong Kong here we come!"...
We are also planning on doing a side-trip to Macau to maximize our travel. Will surely post our first out of the country adventure.

And while we're at it, let me share with you the words that we said and meant last February 9, 2008.

Kris’ Vow (Groom)

Ian, I take you as my wife, and God’s most special gift to me. I will forever thank Him for bringing you into my life. You are the representation of His love to me on this earth for you know how to love me best. I will always treasure the love we share, the love He has given me through you.

I promise to be the best husband and father that I can be. I will go the extra mile to give you the love you deserve, so that I too, may be the best representation of God’s love to you.

I will respect you and your views, and will commit to compromise in times of conflict. I will always put your welfare and our family’s before my own. I will be faithful to this marriage and promise to love only you.

Ian, with your help, I promise to deliver a good marriage so that we may also be an inspiration and living example that God’s love is present among us.

In the presence of God, our families and friends, I vow to love, honor and respect you all the days of my life.

Ian’s Vow (Bride)

With all my love, I take you Kristian as my husband and partner in life. I will always be thankful to God for giving me you, for the love that He has nurtured between us and for all the years that we’ve been through.

As we celebrate the day that we’ve both been waiting for, I promise to be your constant friend and faithful wife, loving what I know of you and trusting what I have yet to know.

In times of conflict, I will hold your hand, listen to you and understand you with an unselfish heart. I promise to love you unconditionally, to honor and respect you, to encourage and inspire you, to laugh with you in times of joy and to comfort and support you in times of sorrow.

I promise to give my best to you and to our future family, never wanting anything more than what we have and what we both can offer.

I will stay by your side as we grow old and grey, still leaning on your shoulder like I did when we were much younger. You will always be “my man” – the man I admire, my one true love.

And now, before God, our families and friends, I promise to be true to my word, to love you and to cherish you all the days of my life.

My Celebrity Look-alikes and my New Haircut

I was checking on my old files when I chanced upon these pictures. :)

And by the way, last week, I had my hair cut on an impulse. After having it rebonded last November, I got tired of my long hair. I wanted to look a little different this year, so I started with my hair. :)

On First Loves and Puppy Loves

I sooo love this commercial! We all have our first loves and puppy loves. We all feel kilig whenever we hear or see something that reminds us of our childhood crushes. It's an instant feel-good memory. Some of us ended up with our first love or even childhood sweetheart. But for some of us who don't, we should be glad enough to have met our first love - and we can always look back and reminisce the tender memories that we had.

Philosophies in Life

Sleep as much as you can

Frown when you get upset

Read books that you enjoy

Play with simple things

Do whatever you want, whenever you want

Look for affection when you need it

Get serious once in a while

Show some affection

Get angry once in a while

Change your look

Be happy, above all, regardless what your challenges may be... These are only to show you how strong we can be and overcome them...

What are the benefits of Walking?

I got these from one of the posters in MMLDC, when we had our 2009 Planning Session last January 8-9 (but I only joined day 1 since I had to leave the following day for personal reasons):

It burns calories
It can healp towards maintaining a healthy weight
It helps to boost your metabolism
It helps to reduce body fat
It helps your energy level
It strengthens your legs
It helps to strengthen the immune system
It improves blood circulation
It lowers your blood pressure
It helps to prevent and control diabetes
It promotes positive mental health, including higher levels of self-esteem
It helps you to manage stress and release tension
It helps to improve the ability to fall asleep quickly and sleep well
It may motivate your children to walk more if that's what they see you doing and provides an activity to share with family members and friends

Goodbye DTSI

I am about to say goodbye to my current office here at the 5F of Ortigas Building. Tomorrow, I am expected to report to a bigger and better, but guaranteed to be farther and more stressful office in UP Ayala Land Techno Hub. Yes, that's the new site for this ever growing call center that I am currently with. I still am the head of HR, pending (?) my official promotion to HR Manager. I hope (fingers crossed) I survive. At least the next 4 or 5 months until I finally decide...

Anyway, here's a last look at my Ortigas Office. I took these on my first day here. Now I have IP phone and a laptop.:)

Goal Setting for '09

After the roller coaster ride I had in 2008, I now have 2009 ahead of me. Here are the things that I plan to make happen in the year of the Ox:

1. Save Up and Diversify - Stick to the 20% savings plan and the pay yourself first scheme. Look for other ways to earn interest, aside from the traditional banks.

2. Become a WAHM. The M is still in the works. :)

3. Spend more time with the people that matter

4. Earn on the Net - blog to earn, advertise or sell.

5. Learn new skills - baking, web design, photography

6. Travel - target places are

Busuanga, Palawan

Hongkong and Macau

Malaysia and Singapore

7. Have a safe and healthy pregnancy and have a healthy and happy baby

8. Stay Fit and Beautiful - have an exercise routine, play badminton again

9. Stay sane - find more "me" time once in a while. Shop, go to the salon, get a massage, read books. :)

10. Share - find ways of sharing our blessings to the less fortunate.

The year that was - 2008

It's 2009. But before I finally say hello to the year of the ox, I want to bid 2008 goodbye. 2008 was a bittersweet year for me. Like I said in my previous blog, it's been a roller coaster ride. Here is my account of the year that was.

January
Jan 9. My then husband to be celebrated his 29th birthday. His last, as a bachelor. We just had a simple celebration. It was also the day when we finalized the details of our wedding, with the help of our wedding coordinator, Marj Dizon, and our catering rep, Judith Dayrit. Our youngest cat to date, Uyay was also born on that same date.

February
Feb 9. Our wedding day. We really had our dream wedding. After over 2 years of preparation, we finally walked down the aisle and said our "I do's". This day marked our journery towards our happy ever after. We had our wedding night at Edsa Shangri-La, where we also stayed the day before for our wedding preps.
We moved in to our apartment in 19th Avenue the day after. I did cry a lot when I realized that we were finally alone. The thought of being away from my family from that day on made me really sad. But eventually I got used to it.
A week after, Kristian and I went to Boracay for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Pearl of the Pacific for 3 days and 2 nights. The accommodation was one of the prizes we got from the story writing contest of Angel's Wink.

When we returned from our trip, we got Popop, my beloved cat, from my parents' house, to stay with us in our apartment.
And then we learned that man behind the said Angel's Wink, Paulo Clemente, who helped us a lot during our wedding preps and even sang us 3 songs on our wedding day, passed away.

March
March 3, Kristian and I went back to work after our month-long wedding vacation.

The following day, I took a pregnancy test since I was almost 2 weeks delayed, and it was positive. Although we didn't really plan to get pregnant right away, we felt that we were blessed to have this baby. I had my t-v u/s March 6 and it showed the sac but no embryo yet. We went to see an OB-Gyne, a referral of Ate Michelle, Kristian's sis in law, that Saturday and she prescribed me vitamins.

March 15, Kristian left for a month-long training in Germany (side-trip to Paris). The plan was for me to stay in our apartment with my mom or our maid on weekdays and then go to my parents' on weekends. I only had to work 3 days the following week since it was already Holy Week. Popop was returned to my parents' house.

March 21, Good Friday. I had my first spotting. My OB advised me to take Isoxilan and bed rest.
March 22, Black Saturday. The spotting continued.
March 23, Easter Sunday. The whole family went to the church and then we went to our apartment to defrost our fridge. Spotting still continued.
March 24, My parents and I went to see my OB at the PCMC because the spotting got heavier. I had another u/s, this time, the embryo was there, but no heartbeat. I was advised to have another u/s the following week. But it never happened.
March 25, 5AM, I was rushed to Delgado Hospital because the pain became intolerable and the bleeding became more profused. My cervix hasn't opened yet, there's still hope that the baby will be saved. And then at about 8PM, my OB did an IE. My cervix was open. I was scheduled to undergo D&C the following day.
March 26, 730AM, my baby was gone. That night, I had the worst pain of my life.

April-May
April 6, Kristian returned from Germany. We went back to our apartment.I became a stay at home wife for 2 months because of my maternity leave. Julie, my boss, called to tell me about the good news of my upcoming promotion to HR Manager in June. We bought my new cellphone, a red Nokia N76, to celebrate.

June
No promotion happened. I was advised that the execs wanted me to have a 3-month developmental program as Site HR OIC first.

I joined the Ops' Summer Outing at Island Cove.

July
I learned that I was a potential candidate for HPV and I was given medications for it. Kris and I also experienced financial drought. We managed to get by through our smart and fun ideas.

August
Popop celebrated his 8th birthday.

HR Strategic Planning Session slash Visioning Activity at the Ascott. We also had our videoke session in Music 21. Still no promotion.

September
HR Planning in Fontana. My promotion as HR Manager for UP Science Park effective October 1 was announced.
We finally decided to have a minor operation to prevent HPV from developing. Another shot of anaesthesia for me. Finally, when I had it removed, I was advised that we can start trying to conceive again.

The HR Management group also went to Baguio for the 45th PMAP Convention. We stayed at Hotel Elizabeth. That was my first time in Baguio.
October
Kris and I went to Tagaytay to celebrate our 9th Anniversary as a couple. We went to Lourdes, Pink Sisters, Picnic Grove, Chapel on the Hill and Caleruega. We ate at Leslie's, Carlo's Pizza, Discovery Country Suites' Verbena, and Manos Greek Taverna. We stayed at Mi-Jo's.

I left my old site and moved to the new one, my temporary office in Ortigas Building. Still no promotion. I was promised that the final date will be December 1.

November
My mom went to Pakil with us for All Saint's Day. We stayed at Ate Neri's place for 3 days and 2 nights. Kristian and I gave her a tour of Kristian's province. Kristian's dad was there too.
November 11. I celebrated my 29th birthday. Kristian took me to lunch at Conti's and bought me blouse and a pair of shoes. Then we had dinner at my parents' house.

December
My first taste of the social scene at work. I attended the Site Christmas Party hosted by our Canadian Site Leader in his Makati condo last December 6
Then we had our north-sites Christmas Party in Crossroad 77 last December 12. December 13, I got a positive PT. Went to my OB immediately. Had spottings a few hours after. Bed rest for over 2 weeks. I missed our HR Christmas Party. I waas absent for exactly 8 days. My promotion was again placed on hold as operations had push backs on it, according to our new Sr. Director.December 22, I had my u/s, but found nothing in there. No signs of pregnancy. My HCG was at 7++. I learned that it has to be at least 25 to declare pregnancy. My OB said we had to rule out ectopic pregnancy. I got really scared as that would mean I will have to undergo another operation. Mt third anaesthesia for the year. The next day I had a heavy bleeding, with really painful cramps. December 24, I took another PT - NEGATIVE! How did it happen? I still don't know. But then it paved the way for my peace of mind on Christmas Day.

We had a simple yet happy celebration at my parent's house. My first as a married woman.

We were able to buy our matching Lacoste shirts as planned, and we wore them for New Year's, and also bought PSP on New Year's Day.

What a bad year for career and pregnancy it was. But I would still want to think of everything that happened as blessings. Right now, I may not know all the reasons behind them, or I may never know what the reasons were, but the fact that I am still here, breathing, smiling and surrounded by the people and pets who matter, makes me thankful enough. After all, there were also lots of happy memories for 2008. And who knows? 2009 might just be a better year for me. Happy New Year! :)
